6 March. Research Seminar for Centre for Study of Global Human Movement. Matthew Machin-Autenrieth, Vanessa Paloma Elbaz and Steve Wilford presented research from the 'Past and Present Musical Encounters across the Strait of Gibraltar' project.
25-27 March. 'Sephardi Jewish Women and Patriarchy'. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a keynote for Interfaith Council of Berry College, Georgia USA and Masterclass of Sephardi music for University choral ensembles.
28-29 March. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented at the Conference on Jewish Contributions to Middle Eastern Music, King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Paper title: 'Music, Space, Time and Power in Jewish Morocco'
2-3 April. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a seminar on 'Past and Present Role of Jews and Judaism in Moroccan Society'. Tangier American Legation and Institute for Moroccan Studies. Paper title: 'Negotiating Minority status through Song: the Function of Jewish Singers in Moroccan Society' Tangier, Moroccoo.
11-14 April. British Forum for Ethnomusicology Annual Conference (University of Aberdeen). Matthew Machin-Autenrieth presented a paper entitled 'Ziryab and Us: Tradition and Collaboration in the Interpretation of an Arab-Andalusian Musical Myth'
17-19 June. Jews and Muslims of Morocco: Uncommon Commonalities Annual Conference of the American Sephardi Federation's Institute of Jewish Experience (Center for Jewish History, New York). Vanessa Paloma Elbaz delivered a paper entitled: 'Jewish Moroccan Songs in Haketia and their Core Communal Function.'
24-26 June. British Society for Middle Eastern Studies Annual Conference (University of Leeds). Matthew Machin-Autenrieth, Samuel Llano, Vanessa Paloma Elbaz and Steve Wilford delivered a panel entitled: 'Musical Encounters between the Maghreb and Europe: Questions, Approaches and Methodologies'.
24-25 June. Sonic Circulations 1900-1950. Musical Thought, Scientific Fantasies, Global Contexts (King's College London). Vanessa Paloma Elbaz delivered a paper entitled: 'La Voz de mi Madre en la Mia: Recording Moroccan Women's Sephardi Repertoire in the Interwar Period.'
26-28 June. The Changing Face of Religious Authority: Knowledge, Legotimacy and Power. Woolf Institute. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz participateed in this workshop as a respondent.
2 July. Matthew Machin-Autenrieth participated in a workshop for the research project 'Patrimondial' at the `Université Paris-Sorbonne.
23-26 July. AVAMUS 'The Mediterranean Migrant Sounds' Conference (Valencia). Matthew Machin-Autenrieth, Samuel Llano, Vanessa Paloma Elbaz and Steve Wilford delivered a panel entitled: 'Musical Encounters between the Maghreb and Europe: Questions, Approaches and Methodologies'.
1 September. Voyages au cœur du Maroc juif: Héritages berbère, arabe et hispanique as part of the Journées européennes de la culture et du patrimoine juifs (Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme, Paris). Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a paper entitled «Textes oraux des juives marocaines: identité et religiosité».
20-21 September. Sound in Motion Steve Wilford took part in a workshop at the University of Bern (Switzerland), presenting a paper entitled "Listening for the Past in Eastern Paris"
25 September. Diwan en Lorraine Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a conference on «KHOYA: les archives sonores du Maroc juif» (Nancy, France).
26 September. Diwan en Lorraine Vanessa Paloma Elbaz performed a concert entitled "Sur les rives du détroit du Gibraltar" with Françoise Atlan and Fouad Didi (Nancy, France).
1 October. Mirroring Musical Traditions of the Two Andalusias. Workshop and Lecture-Recital with Marc Loopuyt at Peterhouse College, Cambridge. Marc specialises in the musical traditions that straddle North Africa, Southern Europe and the Middle East.
23 October. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz performed a concert entitled HAKKETIA as part of the HAFLA concert series at the FOL in Casablanca, Morocco.
27 October. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a paper entitled 'Moroccan Judeo-Spanish Women's Songs: Core Function of a Forgotten Repertoire' for the Music Seminar Series at SOAS, University of London.
30 October. E. Allison Peers Symposium 2019 on Minorities in the Hispanic World: Contemporary and Historical Contexts & Perspectives, University of Liverpool. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz, keynote speaker, gave the Annual Peers lecture on "Judeo-Spanish women's songs in Morocco: the discovery of the core communal role of a nearly forgotten repertoire".
31 October-2 November. British Forum for Ethnomusicology and Société française d'ethnomusicologie Autumn Conference (City, University of London). Steve Wilford presented a paper entitled 'Listening for the Past in Eastern Paris' at a conference with the theme "Music, Sound, Space and Place: Ethnomusicology and Sound Studies".
27 November. Steve Wilford spoke at Wolfson College, Cambridge as part of their Lunchtime Seminar series, giving a paper entitled "Hearing and Seeing Music in Early Twentieth Century Algeria"
28 November. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz was a respondent for the workshop Documentary filming of Cultural interaction of the Religious diversity and the Secular University of project. Junior Parlour, Trinity College, Cambridge.
29 November. Middle East and Central Asia Music Forum (SOAS, University of London). Matthew Machin-Autenrieth, Samuel Llano, Vanessa Paloma Elbaz and Steve Wilford delivered a panel entitled "Microhistories of Sonic Encounter in Colonial North Africa: Representation, Symbolic Violence and Diplomacy".
9-10 December. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz presented a paper entitled 'Massira El Khadra : Singing the Non-Diasporicity of Moroccan Jewishness' at the Diasporas in the Middle East and North Africa Workshop, The Chaim Herzog Centre, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
16-19 December. Oral Traditions in World Literature Organized by the project “Multilingual Locals, Significant Geographies” (SOAS University of London) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Vanessa Paloma Elbaz delivered a paper entitled 'Sephardi Orature and the myth of Hispanidad'.
