As our opening event, we are delighted to present an afternoon of flamenco and Arab-Andalusian fusion with the group CusCus Flamenco. Founded in 2016 by the Moroccan-born singer Hamid Ajbar, the project presents a musical encounter between the Arab-Andalusian and flamenco cultures. Although initially they were from different epochs, these traditions coincide in a time and place where both were marginalized. The group brings together the depth of flamenco singing and the lyrical poetry of Andalusian muwashahat and zejeles in a ‘deep’ fusion, exquisite in flavour, and with a fragrance as fresh as the breeze of the summer nights of the Alhambra.

This concert will be premiered through our Facebook and YouTube page at 14:00 BST.

At 15:30 BST, there will be a Q&A session via zoom with the musicians to discuss their backgrounds, influences and inspirations for the project. Please register for this session.

Please note this session is open to both English and Spanish speakers.

The event is free but is by registration only as numbers are limited.

Como nuestro evento inaugural de la serie Conversaciones Sonoras del Mediterráneo occidental es un gran placer presentar una tarde de fusión entre el flamenco y la música andalusí. El grupo CusCus Flamenco, fundado en Granada en 2016 por el cantante de origen marroquí Hamid Ajbar, el presenta un encuentro musical entre dos culturas, la arábigo-andalusí y la flamenca. Aunque en un principio pertenecían a épocas distintas, coinciden en el tiempo y el lugar de marginalización. Con este espectáculo se unen la profundidad del cante flamenco y la poesía lírica de las moaxajas y zéjeles andalusíes, en una fusión “jonda”, de sabor exquisito, con una fragancia tan fresca como la brisa de las noches de verano de la Alhambra.

A las 15:30 BST [16:30 CEST] presentamos una sesión de preguntas con los músicos a través de Zoom para hablar de sus formaciones, influencias e inspiraciones para el proyecto. Por favor, regístrese para esta sesión.
